United States lets ordinary passport holders from 47 countries travel to it without a prior visa.
Visitors to the United States must obtain a visa from one of the United States diplomatic missions unless they come from one of the visa exempt countries or Visa Waiver Program countries. The same rules apply to Puerto Rico and the United States Virgin Islands while slightly different rules apply to Guam, Northern Mariana Islands and American Samoa.
Effective September 13, 2017, the Department of Homeland Security has announced that the State Department would stop issuing visas at its consular offices in the following countries due to the lack of cooperation on removal matters:
Cambodia โ issuance of all B visas for Cambodian Ministry of Foreign Affairs employees, with the rank of Director General and above, and their families.
Eritrea โ issuance of all B visas.
Guinea โ all B, F, J, and M visas to Guinean government officials and their immediate family members.
Sierra Leone โ all B visas to Sierra Leonean Ministry of Foreign Affairs officials and immigration officials.
The United States partially suspended visa services in the following countries,
Cuba โ On 29 September 2017, the US halted processing of all visas except family reunification visas at its embassy in Havana, Cuba.
Turkey โ On 8 October 2017, the US embassy in Turkey has announced it is suspending "all non-immigrant visa servicesโ.
